  • Calcium is a major structural component of bones and teeth, and is an essential dietary mineral. Various forms of calcium are available for supplementation.

  • Calendula (Calendula officinalis), or pot marigold, is very commonly used in herbal medicine as a topical anti-inflammatory and antiseptic. Its soothing effect is due to its ability to scavenge free radicals (which are products of inflammation), preventing them from causing further inflammation, and to its ability to inhibit lymphocyte proliferation (a white blood cell associated with the immune system).

  • As continuous improvements in our knowledge and new and evolving methods of treatment are developed, pet owners and their veterinarians have more options available when cancer is diagnosed.

  • Captopril is an angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitor (ACE inhibitor) that is used to lower blood pressure and to improve heart function.

  • Perhaps no other medical advancement has saved more lives than vaccination. Modern vaccines are extremely effective and safe. However, it is common for many pets to experience mild side effects following vaccination, similar to those that humans experience. Rarely does a pet need veterinary medical attention for these normal minor side effects.

  • The purpose of this handout is to provide you with general information about the routine care of your cat’s surgical incision. If your cat’s incision requires special care, your veterinarian will discuss the details of this care with you.

  • Carnitine (L-carnitine is the active form of carnitine) is an amino acid that the body uses to turn fat into energy. Carnitine is not normally considered an essential nutrient because the body can manufacture all it needs in the liver using the amino acids lysine or methionine, and vitamins C, B1 and B6.

  • Carprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent used to relieve pain and inflammation in dogs.

  • Cats are highly attached to territory, and movement away from that secure base is not something that is undertaken lightly! Traveling in cars, planes and other forms of human transportation can be a very stressful experience for all concerned, in part because the cat is no longer in control of its own experience.

  • Most male animals that are kept for companionship, work, or food production (stallions, dogs, tomcats, bulls, rams and boars) are neutered (castrated) unless they are intended to be used as breeding stock.
