Bridgton Veterinary Hospital Curbside Service Update – June 2021
Summer is here and the heat is on! As we plan to continue curbside service through the very busy summer season, we want you to know that we do have a supply of water and juice inside, please feel free to ask for some. We also understand if you may like to run an errand while we have your pet in for an appointment to keep yourself moving in the air conditioning, just let us know please.
We are still in search of a third veterinarian for the practice. We continue to do the very best we can to get every pet seen. In order to keep space for sick and injured pets we are scheduling wellness visits and vaccination approximately five weeks out. Please try to plan accordingly if your dog or cat is coming due for their vaccinations please call early! We also keep a cancellation list and move appointments up as often as we can as the schedule changes.
For many months we have been experiencing back orders on prescription canned food products. We are excited to say that the companies are beginning to send us dates for when these products will be available again over the summer.
We do have a triage phone service called Guardian Vet. They pick up our calls overnight when we are closed and can help you decide if you should go to emergency or if your pet is safe to wait and be seen the next day. We just want to remind our clients that this is an outside service, it is not a BVH employee that you are speaking with. We do not know about these conversations until the next morning when we review the call reports that Guardian Vet submits to us overnight.
During business hours when all of our staff is on another call or with a patient and unable to pick up the phone, you will be given the option to leave us a voicemail. We check these voicemails multiple times a day. So we will get your message, you do not need to leave a message and text in your refill orders. These are checked by different departments in the office and often lead to double entry. Please choose one of these options as a way to place your order. As always we ask that you please call in your refill 24 hours ahead of time.
Our hard working staff truly appreciates your patience, understanding, and pleasant attitudes, during this very busy and interesting time.
How we are working curbside care:
We are asking that when you arrive for your pet’s appointment, that you please stay in your car and call or text us. We will have a technician speak with you over the phone and take any information needed for the appointment. We will then have a staff member come to the car and bring your pet into the hospital for the exam and/or procedure.
Please make sure that dogs have a secure collar and/or harness with a leash, and that cats are in a carrier. The doctor or technician will call you after the exam to discuss findings and come up with a treatment plan. After treatment, a staff member will call you for payment over the phone and then we will bring your pet back outside to you. This has been a difficult decision for us to make and we hope you understand that we are continuing with this process in an attempt to be able to continue to serve your pets while doing our very best to keep our staff and our community as safe as possible. Please know that we continue to be committed to minimizing your pet’s stress while they are here, and that we will handle your pet with the same low stress and compassionate methods that we always have. If you feel strongly that this protocol will not work for you and/or your pet, and that the appointment cannot be postponed, please let us know and we will do our best to come up with an alternative plan.
